Credit Valley Hospital

Responding to the Diverse Needs of the Community

Making Credit Valley Accessible

At the Credit Valley Hospital we are committed to providing respectful care that focuses on the unique needs of the individual. Providing equitable care that respects the dignity and independence of people with disabilities is important to achieving patient and family centred care.
The Ontario legislature passed an Act to strengthen the law on creating a barrier-free Ontario for people with disabilities. The Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2005, outlines mandatory standards that will improve accessibility in five areas beginning with the Customer Service Standard.
As per the requirements of the Customer Service Standard, The Credit Valley Hospital recently filed its first compliance report (pdf) to the Province. Find out the hospital is doing to create a more accessible environment.

Providing Culturally Sensitive Care

The Credit Valley Hospital is committed to values that drive our actions and position us to be the finest hospital in Canada. As our society becomes more diverse, we understand that providing excellence in patient care will be directly related to our ability to provide culturally and linguistically sensitive services.
At Credit Valley our goal is to provide care that is culturally and linguistically sensitive and respectful. It is characterized by consideration for the unique needs, beliefs and values of every individual.
Staff receives education and training to help them provide culturally sensitive care.
As a patient or visitor to the hospital, we would appreciate your assistance in helping us to provide the best care possible.

  1. Please tell us your language preference and we will do our best to accommodate you.
  2. Please tell us your cultural/religious practices and any accommodation needs.
  3. Please ask questions! Our hospital staff are happy to answer any questions that you might have regarding your care.

If you have any questions or suggestions on how we might better respond to your needs, please contact us at cvhpr@cvh.on.ca

Interpretation and Settlement Services

Settlement workers are available at Credit Valley Hospital to provide settlement support services and interpretation. If you are a newcomer/immigrant and would like to have the support of a settlement worker, advise the hospital staff upon registration. Settlement workers can provide information on the health care system and options available and assist with connecting you and your family with community resources to address your settlement needs.
The Credit Valley Hospital also uses a telephone service providing access to interpreters 24/7. Upon request, American Sign Language Interpreters can be arranged through the Canadian Hearing Society.
Please let us know if you need language interpretation when making your hospital appointment.
