FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: (Mississauga, ON) Trillium Health Centre and The Credit Valley Hospital are pleased to announce the first of several clinical integration projects involving the two hospitals as part of our work with the Mississauga-Halton Local Health Integration Network (LHIN) to improve health outcomes for our region.
The first project centralizes two highly specialized surgeries at one location allowing the hospitals to make the best use of health care dollars and professional expertise within each hospital’s surgical programs.
As of April 17, 2009, all malignant thoracic oncology surgeries in Mississauga will be performed at The Credit Valley Hospital and major vascular surgeries will be performed at Trillium Health Centre.
Both of these surgeries are highly specialized. The surgeons at Trillium Health Centre and The Credit Valley Hospital agree that centralizing these surgeries with a specialized team of surgeons, radiologists, anesthetists and nurses creates a “critical mass” of expertise.
Patient waiting times will be reduced as the hospitals dedicate specific operating room time and personnel for this purpose. Trillium thoracic surgeons and CVH vascular surgeons will still operate on their own patients. The only difference is where the surgeries will be performed.
Janet Davidson, O.C., of Trillium Health Centre and Michelle DiEmanuele, of The Credit Valley Hospital, who are president and CEO of their respective hospitals, moved forward with this initial LHIN-wide integration project because it enables the hospitals to focus their expertise and create highly-motivated, focused surgical teams to provide the highest quality patient care possible, right here in our community.
