New Regional Vice President to lead Mississauga Halton/Central West Cancer Program at Carlo Fidani Peel Regional Cancer Centre

MISSISSAUGA (June 15, 2012) — Dr. Craig McFadyen, BSc (Hons), MD, MHCM, FRCS(C), has been appointed Regional Vice President, Regional Cancer Services, for the Mississauga Halton Central West Regional Cancer Program, effective August 7, 2012.

In his role, Dr. McFadyen will report jointly to Michelle DiEmanuele, President and CEO of The Credit Valley Hospital and Trillium Health Centre, and Michael Sherar, President and CEO of Cancer Care Ontario. He will also join the senior leadership team at The Credit Valley Hospital and Trillium Health Centre, with primary accountability for the performance of the Mississauga Halton Central West Regional Cancer Program.

“We are very pleased that Dr. McFadyen is joining us to lead the regional cancer program, which is the second largest in the province,” said DiEmanuele. “His strong commitment to reducing wait times, enhancing psychosocial supports for patients, and improving participation in screening programs will build on our excellent results recently announced in the annual Cancer System Quality Index report.”

Dr. Craig McFadyen, BSc (Hons), MD, MHCM, FRCS(C)Dr. McFadyen has held a variety of leadership positions, most recently as the Vice President of Regional Cancer Services for the Waterloo Wellington Regional Cancer Program and Vice President at Grand River Hospital. He also served as the Medical Director of the Waterloo Wellington Breast Assessment Unit and Medical Director of the Waterloo Wellington Regional Colonoscopy Network. He was instrumental in leading the Surgical Oncology Wait Time Initiative and the establishment of Rapid Diagnostic Units in Waterloo Wellington. 

Dr. McFadyen received his MD in 1982 from the University of Calgary and spent a year in general practice before entering the Surgical Training Program at the University of Toronto, receiving his Fellowship in 1988. He subsequently trained for a year in vascular surgery at Sunnybrook Hospital in Toronto before starting his practice in Kitchener-Waterloo in 1990. He holds a Masters of Health Care Management from the Harvard School of Public Health.

As the Regional Vice President, Dr. McFadyen will work with stakeholders, healthcare professionals and organizations involved in cancer prevention and care within the Mississauga Halton and Central West Local Health Integration Networks, responding to local cancer issues and needs, acting on provincial standards and programs locally, and improving access, wait times and quality by managing and coordinating care across local and regional healthcare providers.
