Credit Valley Hospital and Trillium Health Centre Telephone Town Hall now available at cvhthc.ca

"Engaging discussion" at July 23 community town hall focused on future strategy

Mississauga/West Toronto (August 9, 2012) – The Credit Valley Hospital and Trillium Health Centre is making its recent telephone town hall available to the public as a downloadable mp3 file at www.cvhthc.ca.

“It was a really engaging discussion. We had many questions coming in over the phone from members of our community who clearly care deeply about the future of the hospital and of health care in our community,” said Michelle DiEmanuele, President and CEO of The Credit Valley Hospital and Trillium Health Centre. “We want to make sure that everyone has an opportunity to hear what was said.”

Almost 6,000 local residents connected to the town hall at some point during the one-hour event, which was designed to gather community input on the future strategic direction and re-naming of the newly merged hospital.

Your Opinion is VITALCallers touched on themes such as emergency room wait times, better health service delivery, better communication, shuttle service between the three hospital sites, maintaining staff levels, increasing mental health care for children and youth, and ensuring that outpatient services are available at more than one location.

People could sign up to take part in the community-wide conference call, but the hospital also reached out and called 30,000 residents randomly to invite them to participate. “The fact that almost 6,000 people took the time to join in, on a beautiful midsummer evening, is a testament to our community’s passion for health care, and for its hospital. We know people have strong views and want to be heard, and we are listening,” said DiEmanuele.

“Ultimately, our strategy needs to have a positive impact on our patients and community. We really want to understand what our patients experience when they need health care – what they feel, how they are treated, what makes it easier or harder for them,” said DiEmanuele. “This is absolutely critical information that will influence and drive our strategy and priorities.”

DiEmanuele was joined on the telephone town hall by Kathryn Hayward-Murray, Vice President, Patient Services, Quality and Practice, and Chief Nursing Executive for Credit Valley Hospital site and Dr. Norman Hill, Vice President, Medical and Academic Affairs and Executive Lead, Medical Education.

There is still time for the public to have a say. To complete the electronic survey, please go to www.cvhthc.ca.
